Sildenafil Or Tadalafil

Sildenafil or Tadalafil?

Sildenafil and Tadalafil are the types of medicine for managing with sexual disorder problems in men. Let us compare these medicines and find out their similarities and differences.

The main feature, which unites them, is, of course, their result in erectile dysfunction treatment with the similar principle of action. The difference is in the active ingredients: Sildenafil in Viagra, Tadalafil in Cialis 20 mg. Although, they have a similar way of action, chemical formula and contraindications, there are some differences that require closer examination.

If you read the definition of "impotence", it becomes clear that this is a repeated inability to maintain an erection, which is necessary for the sexual intercourse. Hence it becomes clear that Sildenafil and Tadalafil influence the blood supply to the penis and have no psychotropic effects. So such a kind of drugs can improve potency, but cannot stimulate a libido. Also Sildenafil is approved as the medicine for people suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Viagra is the most clinically tested medicine, which has been in use since 1998. Viagra is a commercial name of the medicine containing Sildenafil Citrate, which is a PDE5 inhibitor. An inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 creates an effective and selective blockade of phosphodiesterase-5, which in its turn relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow to the genitalia. Tadalafil has totally the same way of action and as well as Sildenafil pill, starts acting only after the sexual stimulation which allows having a complete intercourse.

In comparison to Tadalafil 20 mg, Sildenafil has a shorter period of action which is about 4 hours and it is taken in an hour before the sexual intercourse, while Tadalafil is taken in 30 minutes before it. Tadalafil acts for 36 hours and is the only medicine which works for such a long period of time.

When taking medicines for the erectile dysfunction treatment, it should be mentioned that Sildenafil is not recommended to be consumed with fatty foods and alcoholic beverages, because this can decrease the quality of action. What is concerning Tadalafil, it has none of the previously mentioned restrictions.

Sildenafil is produced in the form of blue pills of 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg and Tadalafil is available in dosage of 5mg, 10 mg and 20 mg.

The single daily dosage of Sildenafil is 50 mg, but it can also be decreased to 25 mg or increased to 100mg depending on the personal characteristics and demands. As for Tadalafil the minimal dosage is 5 or 10 mg and it can be increased to 20mg.

The intake of these two drugs is contraindicated for the people, having the following health conditions:

  • liver/kidney disease
  • high/low blood pressure
  • deformation of penis
  • retinitis pigmentosa
  • chest pain
  • heart disease
  • blood cell disorders
  • stomach ulcers

All PDE5 inhibitors are strictly forbidden to be taken together with nitrates, alpha-blockers, antibiotics, HIV medications, antifungal medications, nitric oxide donators, hepatitis C medications. Patients suffering from diabetes, cardiovascular diseases should take medicines only after consulting a doctor.

Side effects of these drugs are similar, but they may occur in different degrees or may be absent in one of them. Mostly patients experience such side effects as back pain, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, facial flushing and headache. If to compare Sildenafil with Tadalafil, the last one has the lowest percentage of side effects and the difference is approximately 2-7 %.
